Contacts vs. Glasses: What Parents Should Know Before Choosing
Some kids don’t see as well as others — it’s just a fact of life. However, you don’t have to assume that glasses are the only option for your child. Of course, it’s hard to decide whether your child is ready for contacts, so here are five questions you should ask.

Does Your Child Get Bullied or Have Self-Esteem Issues Because of Glasses?
Unfortunately, kids get bullied when they look or act differently. That’s why being teased for wearing glasses is so common. Some kids are able to handle the teasing with grace, while others get self-esteem issues. So, if your child is getting bullied or having issues with his or her self-image, it may be time to consider contacts as a solution. Of course, getting contacts for pure vanity reasons isn’t a good idea, so you have to consider all of the factors.
Is Your Child Responsible Enough to Care for Contacts Themselves?
The most important thing to consider before getting your child contacts is whether he or she is responsible enough to handle them. Age isn’t really the deciding factor, either. Some teenagers aren’t responsible enough while some preteens don’t have any issues at all. Good things to look at are whether or not your child can keep his or her room clean or take care of a pet.
Has Your Child Been Asking for Contacts?
One good indication that your child is ready for contacts is if he or she has been asking for them. If you’re being bugged about contacts, that means your child is not afraid to use them. Many parents hold their children back because they don’t want to be inconvenienced, but taking care of contacts really isn’t that bad. Plus, you can order contacts online. If your child wants contacts, it may be time to start looking into them.
Does Your Child Play Sports or Do Other Activities Where Glasses Get in the Way?
You should also look at your child’s lifestyle when deciding whether to buy contacts or not. Kids who are very active and play sports usually do better with contacts because glasses can get in the way. As a matter of fact, glasses can actually be a danger to kids during sports because the lenses can break and get in the eyes or injure the face. However, children that just wear glasses occasionally for reading probably aren’t good candidates for contacts.
Would Your Child’s Eyesight Be Treated Better with Contacts?
Several eye conditions can improve with the use of contacts. For instance, some studies show that if you fit your child with contacts, it slows the progression of Myopia. There are also contacts that can change the shape of the cornea and improve a child’s eyesight, in addition to black-out contacts that help children correct amblyopia. This is when the benefits always outweigh the cons.
You need to work with an optometrist to decide on the best option for your child. However, do you have any other advice for parents when they are deciding whether to buy contacts for their child or not?

American Seniors Association

I have visited this American Senior site about the American Seniors Association, which is the fastest growing seniors’ services and advocacy organization in the United States. I also read about them from a blog, an I learned that American Seniors Association is a growing conservative voice on the national issues that impact the lives of seniors in America. Since the group believes that their members are individuals, they have supplemental Medicare insurance, auto and life insurance for their members, as well as other great benefits and discounts that are structured to allow them to make choices based on individual wants and needs.
I heard from mostly seniors, members or not, that American Senior Association’s choices are better than those offered by other agency. I guess that is what is meant when one says that there is a need to Reform the Tax Code, where the nation’s income tax must be simplified to encourage all Americans, young and old alike, regardless of social background and political views, to save and invest for their senior years. Aside from advocating national values and public policies that respect seniors’ independence and right to choices.
People deserve choices when selecting who will best represent their interests in Washington, D.C. In an alliance with American Seniors Advocates, a fast growing and influential conservative voice for the nation’s seniors, American Seniors will fight to make sure that you have the voice in Washington where you need to live a healthier and wealthier life.
Anyway, I was wondering if any of the 5 million members of this association would like to get a new gadget in a FREE iPad 2 Giveaway! It is easy to join and you should go to the link I provide because it will closing soon. You never know you will be the one who will win the iPad2.
Stinky Car? How to Remove Any Odor in Less than a Day
People spend a lot of time in their cars — going to work, school, shopping, etc. That’s why it’s not surprising that cars get funny smells from time to time. Take a look at these five common car odors and how to remove them in less than a day.
When Your Seats Smell Like Cigarette Smoke

Image via Flickr by THEFunkyMan
If you smoke in your car, the upholstery is going to pick up the smell. It’s really hard to remove it once it happens, so the best thing to do is prevent it in the first place. Of course, if you do have to get rid of the smell, you should try airing out the car for a couple hours and then using a fabric freshener on the seats. Upholstery cleaning will also help, but you may never get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke without professional help because it buries itself deep into the cushions. Even car dealers have to deal with this issue, like www.kengarffused.com.
Getting Rid of Spilled/Rotten Milk Smells and Stains

Image via Flickr by radarxlove
The smell of rotten milk is pretty bad when it’s in your car, whether your kid spilled some milk in the back seat or you forgot to take the milk out of your trunk one day. It’s one of the hardest smells to get rid of, too. Try a mixture of baking soda and water and leave it on the stain overnight. If this doesn’t work, you can try using an odor eater and then a light fabric detergent on the surface of the stain.
Preventing and Removing Musty or Mildew Smells

If you’ve ever spilled a drink in your car or left the windows down while it was raining, you might be faced with the smell of mildew the next time you buckle up. This is a tricky smell to fix because mildew can cause permanent damage to the fabric if you don’t take care of it quickly. The best line of defense is to get your upholstery professionally cleaned. If you don’t want to fork over the money to do this, you can try shampooing the seats yourself with a fabric detergent that is made for mildew. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get rid of the smell.
Solving the Smell of the Gym Locker Room

If your car smells like a gym locker room, the first thing you should do is make sure that you don’t have any dirty gym clothes in the trunk or the back seat. Then, you should air out the car to solve the problem. It doesn’t hurt to follow up by spraying the seats with a fabric freshener or installing an air freshener to keep your car smelling nice. Some air fresheners can even be attached to your air vents to spread the smell throughout your car.
What is that Random Funk Smell?

Image via Flickr by Red Sox Bat Girl
If your car has a funny smell and you can’t pinpoint what it is or where it is coming from, your first line of defense should be to spray the inside with a fabric freshener and just let the car air out. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to do some searching to find out exactly where the bad smell is coming from.
Cleaning funky odors out of a car is not fun. What’s the worst smell you’ve had to deal with in your car?

Why I’m glad some things never change
The other day at a friend’s barbecue, a few of us were discussing what our favourite foods were. It was interesting to see how each of our tastes has developed over time. Whilst just a few years ago, I’d have spat an olive out of my mouth immediately, I now see them as an essential accompaniment to any dinner table.
Anyway, the topic of conversation came back around to food we used to love. For instance, we all use to love fish fingers as youngsters, yet none of us has touched them for years. In the end, there was only one food which stuck out as something none of us had grown out of… Heinz Baked Beans. Finally, we managed to put some evidence to the old adage that some things never change and for once, I’m glad this is the case.
As we gorged on the huge bowl of beans which my friend Sally had insisted upon providing, we spoke for a surprisingly long time about the re-launch of the Heinz ad that’s currently on TV. We all agreed that it was ads like these that had kept us hooked on the good stuff, reminding us how our favourite snack is enjoyed by individuals of all ages.
What’s more, the ad seemed to prove our point that everybody, no matter what their age, seems to have a real soft spot for Heinz baked beans. Another point upon which we agreed with the ad was that Heinz is what make beans so great or, to put it as they do – Beanz Meanz Heinz!
It’s funny how small things like beans can become the topic of a passionate discussion amongst friends who haven’t seen each other for so long. We barely spoke of anything else –it was beans all the way for us!
Other key discovery coming out of our conversation was that although none of us used to like seeded bread, it has now become a favourite for all of us, as are plums! Other foods which have gone down in everybody’s estimation are peas, ketchup and marshmallows – failing to hold the same level of attraction and nutritional goodness that is offered by the humble baked bean.

High street shopping in the UK
In the run-up to the Royal Wedding last year, Kate Middleton – now Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge – was spotted in the high street grabbing a few bargains. Indeed, Catherine, who has now become a bona fide style icon, continues to look for high street deals despite her dramatic rise in the world. This is just one slice of proof that the UK’s main shopping drags have become acknowledged sources of sartorial variety and quality. Having a reliable range of brands readily available in every town in the country should be viewed as a great source of national pride.
But it isn’t just the familiar brands that are making us reach for our purses: one key strength of the UK high street lies in the fact that smaller, boutique stores have been given a fantastic chance to grow and become well-known in their own right.
Shopping figures have shown strong patterns of growth in the last couple of years, and as more and more shoppers hit the pavements looking for the perfect gift, a combination of sophisticated store design staffed by well-trained and knowledgeable professionals has continued to make a big difference to consumers’ shopping experience.
Retail adviser and TV favourite Mary Portas was appointed last year by the government to publish a report on the high street with recommendations for the future of UK shopping. It is partly down to her influence that high street newcomers now understand the importance of creating unique spaces and experiences, intended to reflect the values of the brand and its consumers.
Shoppers are continuing to hit the streets, despite the recent rise in online retail spending, because they know that the shopping experience is increasingly in their hands. Shops increasingly cater for a range of purposes and scenarios, so whether you want to be in and out in a hurry or if you’re keen to make a day of it with friends or family, your intentions will be more than likely catered for.
With American Express rewards cards, for example the Platinum Card, you can earn points while you shop for that perfect outfit or gift in many of the UK’s high street stores. The benefits available on cards like these provide just one more example of how our high streets will continue to remain vibrant and innovative in years to come.
Night Shift
Thanks for the guest post by Jonathan Curtis
I just agreed to start working the late shift. This will be my first night working the late shift. I’m going in at 7 pm and getting off at 4 am. I took a nap this afternoon, and drank a big Red Bull, so I should be good to go. I’m sure I will be beat tomorrow, but I can sleep all day tomorrow if I want. I wouldn’t have agreed to the night shift if it wasn’t for the money. The pay is quite a bit better, I guess because no one wants to do it. I will miss my evening routine of watching my favorite shows, though. I figured out how to set my DIRECTV DVR to record them all for me, so I can watch them when I feel like it tomorrow. I think all in all, it will be okay and I won’t mind the late shift after all. My girlfriend lives out of town for the next few months, so this is the perfect time for me to be doing it.

Grew up in Texas
This guest post from Doris Dillon
I don’t know how I didn’t know this before, since I grew up in Texas, but it turns out we have the ability to select our energy providers from multiple options. It’s a great way to save a little money every month! I guess I wasn’t as concerned about things like this before I moved out on my own, but I’m so glad I made this discovery. I’ve actually recommended making a change to my parents, as well. While they’re not forced to live as frugally as I am, it’s obviously nice for anyone to be able to save a little money! It’s so easy to Shop electricity rates texas—it involves basically no effort, and it’s such a relief to know that I have a little extra money each month to cover my expenses. I have told a bunch of my friends who recently moved out on their own, too. I don’t think any of us were ready for just how expensive it is just to live these days…it definitely gives me a better appreciation for what my parents must have gone through having to provide for my family. I can barely cut it just providing for myself!
