Lots of children's educational programming has taken a leap from light and fun to annoying and absurd, but there's still one old standby that keeps its quality and integrity year after year. Sesame Street still displays the best available in children's learning shows.
The Sesame Street characters, developed by famous puppeteer, Jim Henson, still maintain their freshness forty years after the show's debut on public broadcasting channels. Garnering rave reviews since it first aired in November 1969, the show featuring the "Children's Television Workshop," was one of the first to base it's teaching on actual research of children's learning. It is still the most popular children's educational program in the world, being broadcast in more than 120 countries. Most children have watched Sesame Street by the time they enter the educational system.
Even though my child has outgrown the series, I still tune in to some of my favorite
tvbydirect.com stations to see the celebrity guests, which have recently included Katy Perr,y who stirred up a bit of controversy with her revealing outfit in her show segment featuring Elmo.
The fast-paced nature of the show can still be interesting, even to older kids who have grown up with Sesame Street characters like Elmo, Oscar, Big Bird and Bert and Ernie. Although
Jim Henson is no longer with us, his legacy of creative television for young audiences still enchants our children.
